Cancun, Mexico

On October 11, 2009, Les and I traveled to Cancun, Mexico. We left Cleveland wearing a jacket and sipping hot chocolate. When we arrived in Mexico three hours later, we had discarded the jacket and we were drinking water. It was in 90's with 100% humidity. While in Mexico, Les and I visited the Maya Chiche'n Itza . It is listed as one of the new seven wonders of the world. The pyramids were spectacular. While visiting the site, local Mayans were displaying their handicrafts for tourist to buy. We also went on a horseback ride in the "jungle". While on this trip, we learned that the average citizen in Cancun makes about $35 for a 6 day work week.

Off to Africa

During fall break, I went on a mission trip to South Africa. I traveled with a family from Oak Grove Elementary School. We spent several days providing food distributions for the children in Cosmos City. While on the trip, we went on a Safari. I saw animals that I had often read about in various books.

African School and Orphanage

I also visited the Door of Hope. This is a home for children who have been abandoned. I am holding a little girl named Jessica. The children who are in this home age from birth to two. Several of the babies were in the process of being adopted. This home was supported by a church in North Carolina and Virgina.
Just miles from Cosmos was Betheseda Children's Home. This was a family group home. Children who lived here also attended school on campus. This is a picture of me in front of a lime tree.
